About This Event

WHAT LIES BENEATH THE LINEN?

A Victorian Mummy Unwrapping

What happens when Victorian fascination with ancient Egypt meets curiosity, spectacle, and a little bit of the macabre?

Step into the strange and captivating world of Victorian Egyptomania with Jen Rogers, public historian and Museum Director of the Nevada State Museum in Carson City, for a historical recreation of a Victorian-era mummy unwrapping.

Discover why these unusual events captivated Victorian audiences and explore the sensationalism, curiosity, and fascination surrounding mummy unwrappings during this extraordinary period.

And yes—the mummy will be unwrapped! But rest assured, it is a reproduction created specifically for historical demonstration, not a real human mummy. The presentation may include graphic imagery, descriptions, and simulated elements related to mummification and Victorian mummy unwrapping practices.
